Update On Pale Criminal: Over 6,000 Downloads In Five Days
  • resize

For all who have been kind enough to ask about Pale Criminal, the first phase of my book re-release — via Kindle Direct Publishing (i.e. KDP Select) — is over, and I’m happy to report that it was more successful than I’d imagined it would be.

    I tallied a total of 6,322 downloads. I was hoping for 1,000.

Mind you, those 6,322 downloads came during the five-day giveaway period, which is one of the advantages of publishing your book via the KDP Select platform.

For those of you who have also asked, this book was originally published — under a different title — by a small literary press. The marketing there was poor, and I was a poor marketer (still am). And that, in answer to your questions, is finally why I decided to rewrite and republish this book under a different title, with a new cover, and a new back-cover description.

The challenge now, of course, is to keep the momentum going, and since it’s come off its five-day free giveaway period, the book has continued to sell — although not hugely, it’s selling nevertheless.

I put a great deal of thought into which Amazon categories I’d list it, and here, as of five minutes ago, is its Amazon ranking:

#8 in Kindle Store > Kindle eBooks > Nonfiction > Politics & Social Sciences > Philosophy > Good & Evil
    #15 in Books > Politics & Social Sciences > Philosophy > Good & Evil
#54 in Kindle Store > Kindle eBooks > Literature & Fiction > Genre Fiction > Metaphysical

During the giveaway period, Pale Criminal was (inexplicably) listed as an Amazon Bestseller, which had the pleasant effect of sending my Amazon visibility into the stratosphere. That has helped a great deal.

Now we move to phase two of a process that was much more work than I’d initially anticipated.

    My thanks to you all.

Congratulations Ray! I am happy that Pale Criminal exceeded expectations.

  • Thank you, Greg. To be honest, the difficult part of the process is still in front of me. But I’ve got off to a good start.

  • let’s get to work on your headshot for the next book!

  • Yes! As soon as humanly possible.

  • Sorry I’m late in my offers of congratulations! I’m behind in my blog reading. Great job with the redesign; it looks captivating and sexy. Have you set up an Amazon Author page yet? I did one and it was as easy as drinking three of your martinis.
