Political Cow (Episode 2): Showing in 60 Seconds that Health Care is NOT a Right

About The Author

I was born and raised in the San Juan Mountains of southwestern Colorado. I've worked as a short-order cook, construction laborer, crab fisherman, janitor, bartender, pedi-cab driver, copyeditor, and more. I've written and ghostwritten several published books and articles, but no matter where I've gone or what I've done to earn my living, there's always been literature and learning as the constant in my life.

  • Yes, I know. What did you think of that — the time specifically, I mean? Too short? (I’m referring to the video, not running.)

  • No, not too short. A pretty straightforward point that needs no further explanation.

  • A moral realist would say that there are some propositions, say that gratuitous cruelty is wrong, that are true in any universe, regardless of who is around. They exist, as it were, as an idea in the eternal mind of God. I shall take a quietist position on this proposition. It’s kind of like the limerick response to Berklee’s claim that objects only exist when there is someone there to observe them.

    God in the Quad

    There was a young man who said “God
    Must find it exceedingly odd
    To think that this tree
    Should continue to be
    When there’s no one about in the quad.”

    “Dear Sir: Your astonishment’s odd;
    I am always about in the quad.
    And that’s why this tree
    Will continue to be
    Since observed by, Yours faithfully, God.”
