I recently discovered this song — on an obscure FM radio-station — and I fell in love with it. So I decided to make a bartending video to go along with it.
I was born and raised in the San Juan Mountains of southwestern Colorado. I've worked as a short-order cook, construction laborer, crab fisherman, janitor, bartender, pedi-cab driver, copyeditor, and more. I've written and ghostwritten several published books and articles, but no matter where I've gone or what I've done to earn my living, there's always been literature and learning at the core of my life.
All the Sand in All the Sea
DeVotchKa
All your precious souls
Have been bought and sold
For bargain basement lows
To common criminals
So you are having visions
Adverse flying conditions
Overseas transmissions
To anyone who will listen
You’re waiting for the drums to kick in
You want to free your earthbound limbs
I am gonna count to three
Then you are leaving here with me
Are we wasting all our precious time?
Chasing dollars, chasing dimes
German, English, Japanese
All the sand in all the seas
It’s all in place, it’s all laid out
And as we speak it’s going down
Oh, don’t forget me regretfully
Here’s the part that always gets me
You float across the room
Your lips are in full bloom
Pedals fall from your mouth
Have you found me out?
You’ve been here before
A lover’s civil war
I…
Music, Spirit, and Body in perfect motion together…Fluid, Graceful, Electric…Reminds me of one of the powerful points of philosophy in your beautiful book, “Gap-Toothed Girl”…
Keep shining, Harvey!
Frith Drietz! You shining star! You move me nearly to tears in mentioning Gap-Toothed Girl. Thank you. I could only ever dimly aspire to little Dusty May’s grace and courage and strength-of-spirit.
I LOVE this video – it takes me back to that sweet indescribable feeling of being captivated and inspired by the way you move, by the way you think. It’s an honor to have seen that so intimately – you’ve shown me depths of love I never knew. Thank you for sharing your beautiful work with us – It means so much to me, more than I can say.
Just love the vid and the music Ray… I have to defer to Mr. Thompson here to amplify my thoughts:
“Music has always been a matter of Energy to me, a question of Fuel. Sentimental people call it Inspiration, but what they really mean is Fuel. I have always needed Fuel. I am a serious consumer. On some nights I still believe that a car with the gas needle on empty can run about fifty more miles if you have the right music very loud on the radio.”

Indeedy-do!
Rad song, sweet moves and I love how you took a shot at the end!
Jessi!
The only thing that would have made that shot better is if you were drinking one with me.
